On May 10, 2016, a federal district court in the District of Columbia issued a
preliminary injunction blocking Staples’ proposed acquisition of Office Depot,1 resolving litigation that required several months of discovery and a two-week hearing that began on March 21, 2016. Shortly thereafter, Staples and Office Depot followed through on their prior public statements and abandoned their transaction.
