Balthasar Strunz

Balthasar Strunz is a German-qualified lawyer and a member of the Munich Bar, based in the Brussels office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. He is a member of the firm’s Antitrust and Competition Group. Mr. Strunz’s practice encompasses all areas of competition law, with a strong focus on merger control filings (including EU and multijurisdictional), cartel investigations, abuse of dominance and EU state aid law. Prior to joining Gibson Dunn, Mr. Strunz trained at the European Commission (DG Competition) and the competition groups of two Magic Circle firms in Berlin and Brussels. Mr. Strunz finished his legal clerkship, during which he worked for the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs, with the Second State Exam in 2015. Prior to this Mr. Strunz wrote a PhD on South African competition law at the Max-Planck-Institute for Innovation and Competition. Mr. Strunz graduated from Humboldt University in Berlin in 2009 and received a LL.M. degree from the University of Cape Town in 2010.
