The Austrian Federal Competition Authority (BWB) was established on the basis of the Austrian Competition Act2 (WettbG). Its powers result from national cartel and competition law as well as from Council Regulation (EC) No 1/2003 on the implementation of the rules on competition. It is an independent and autonomous authority, mandated in particular to conduct investigations into suspected infringements of Austrian and European competition law.
