Etsuko Kameoka is a partner of Atsumi & Sakai Europa in Frankfurt. Previously, she was with Geradin Partners, Van Bael & Bellis, and other firms as a competition lawyer for more than 20 years. She specialises in EU competition law, with a particular emphasis on cartel investigations, competition law aspects of commercial agreements and IP licensing, merger control proceedings, abuses of dominance investigations and private damages actions for infringements of EU competition law. She also assists in creating corporate competition compliance programmes and conducts training sessions. Her work has been widely published in both Europe and Japan, including the book ‘Competition Law and Policy in Japan and the EU’ (Edward Elgar Publishing, 2014) and ’Legal Professional Privilege in EU Competition Investigation’ (Edward Elgar Publishing, to be published in July 2023). She is also a lecturer in law at various universities. Etsuko studied law at Keio University (Japan), the College of Europe (Belgium), New York University School of Law (USA), and the University of Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne (France). She earned her PhD in law with a thesis on EU competition law from the University of Brussels (Belgium).
