Giulio Federico is head of unit of the Recovery & Resilience Task in the Secretariat-General, European Commission. He joined DG Competition in late 2011 and worked there until August 2020. Over the past few years he has coordinated the CET’s work on numerous in-depth merger investigations and on several antitrust matters. Prior to joining the European Commission he worked in economic consultancy for 10 years and was a Vice President at Charles River Associates. Until 2020, he was a guest professor at the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics, and was the president of the Association of Competition Economics in 2014 and 2015. He holds an MPhil and a DPhil in Economics from the University of Oxford (Nuffield College). Giulio Federico has published a number of academic and policy papers, on merger-related issues (e.g. efficiencies; remedy design; quantitative methods; bidding markets; and innovation) and on other competition topics (e.g. loyalty discounts; and regulatory and competition issues in energy markets).
