Jacques-Philippe Gunther is a partner in the Litigation Department of Latham & Watkins in Paris and Brussels, where he heads the firm’s European competition and antitrust practice. Mr. Gunther is widely recognized as one of Europe’s leading competition law specialists by the French and European antitrust authorities. Mr. Gunther is known for his expertise advising clients on European and national merger filings and in complex disputes before the European Commission, French antitrust authorities, French Courts and the European Court of Justice. He is also one of the most recognized experts in the field of State Aid. Mr. Gunther has particular experience in the media, telecommunications, defense, energy and financial sectors. Mr. Gunther is a former president of the F.N.U.JA (Fédération des Unions de Jeunes Avocats, Federation of the Union of Young Lawyers) and is a member of the A.F.E.C. (Association Française d’Etude de la Concurrence, French Association of antitrust). He is also a former member of the National Council of the Bars (C.N.B.). Prior to joining Willkie, Mr. Gunther led the antitrust and competition practice that he started in the Paris office of Freshfields Bruckhaus in 1999. Prior to Freshfields, he was with Gide Loyrette Nouel (Paris and Brussels), where he began his career.
