Mel Marquis is Deputy Associate Dean at Monash Law School in Melbourne. He is Co-Director of the Monash Inter-Faculty Law and Economics Program, and a member of the Centre for Commercial Law and Regulatory Studies. He is also Special Editor for Competition Law at European Papers: A Journal on Law and Integration. He was part-time Professor of Law at the European University Institute in Florence from 2011 to 2019 and Professore a contratto at LUMSA University in Rome from 2012 to 2019. He has also been Visiting Professor, Chair Professor or Senior Fellow at several universities: Renmin University in Beijing, Central University of Finance and Economics in Beijing, Doshisha University in Kyoto and the University of Melbourne Law School. He has also worked as a practicing lawyer in the United States and in Belgium. He has been a Fulbright Scholar and has earned Ph.D and LL.M degrees in European Union, international and comparative law. He has a J.D. degree and graduated magna cum laude from a U.S. law school, and he has a B.A. in political science. His research interests include global and comparative competition policy and governance, institutional development and consumer law.
