Maximilian (* 2000) is a law student and is currently taking part in a double degree programme at master’s level at the Universities of Freiburg, Germany, and Strasbourg, France.

Maximilian finds joy in acquainting himself with any legal topic, but if some particular fields of interest were to name, competition law, European law, international commercial arbitration and investor-state dispute settlement would definitively be among them.

In the 27th Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot, Maximilian won a second prize in the oral arguments and a second prize for the memorandum of claimant, as a member of the University of Freiburg’s Vis Moot team. In summer 2022, he did a 3-month traineeship in a merger unit at the European Commission, DG Competition. In December 2022, Maximilian was awarded the prize for the best student of the year in the first year of master in his exchange programme.

Competition law is not just some body of legal rules for Maximilian, but an instrument to promote consumer welfare, to foster innovation and, most of all, to deepen the European integration.
