Mariya Serafimova is a German qualified lawyer (Assessor iuris) and a Ph.D. student at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder). She writes her doctoral thesis on EU Competition Enforcement Law with Professor Christoph Brömmelmeyer at the Chair of Civil and European Private Law. Mariya was born in Sofia, Bulgaria, in 1990. She completed her legal studies at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder) where she graduated with a first state exam and an integrated LL.B. degree. She passed the second state exam at the Higher Regional Court of Brandenburg and worked as a trainee in competition law at the European Commission DG Competition, the Federal Cartel Office and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP in Berlin. She also worked as an academic research assistant in Hausfeld LLP and Freshfields in Berlin, as well as at the Jean-Monnet-Chair of German Public Law and European Law at the Viadrina University for Professor Pechstein.
