The behavior of platforms that also provide their own products and services has come under increased antitrust scrutiny, and allegations of so-called “self-preferencing” against two-sided tech platforms have multiplied, first in the European Union, and more recently in the United States. This article focuses on two areas of self-preferencing allegations that relate to pricing practices: commission rates and harvesting marketplace data to determine pricing.
